HISTORY

Since opening our doors in 1981, we have been supplying South Australia and Regions in Australia with quality made lounges and sofas, providing our seating to retailers across the state.

We believe in the power of family, quality and hard work. For over 40 years, we’ve continuously strived to master the art of manufacturing lounges. Pictured below: Lou Makris hard at work

Beilby’s began as a small bean bag manufacturing operation, located in the shed of founders Lou and Sally Makris’s home. After realising potential and opportunity, they moved on to producing small quantities of Lounges and Chairs. Equipped with Sally’s sewing machine and Lou’s eye for detail, each piece was hand made with emphasis on the craftsmanship.

By 1990 they had moved into their first factory in Wingfield and began to employ and train staff, manufacturing and supplying a wider range of Sofas for local retailers. Beilby’s has since boomed, growing to supply over 25 stores in metropolitan and regional South Australia.

Lou’s ability to adapt to the turbulent market has positioned Beilby’s to be ahead in both comfort & design. Continuing to build a better product year after year, vintage Beilby’s lounges are seen today on Facebook Marketplace and various Op-Shops still in meticulous condition as they were the day they left the factory decades ago.

Surviving four decades as an independent business hasn’t hindered the vision or resilience of Beilbys. Over that time, the furniture industry has seen a huge shift from manufacturing to importing overtaking popularity in retailers. However, for Lou, the vision remains – Beilby’s continues to make the best quality product available.
